As of this moment, Sandpiper Knits has had 4000 hits from the time I began using StatCounter to count hits. Wow. Welcome.
Yesterday was Molly's third birthday. She and I had a long talk. She is no longer a teenager, and she must stop eating socks and knocking the trash can over.
Notice how she is holding up one foot. Sometimes she does that in the snow, as if lifting one up will keep it warmer. Maybe if she keeps eating socks, I'll make her wear little socks of her own to take her outside walks. I'm not sure that would be pleasing for Little Miss Molly.
Olympic knitting continues at a rapid pace. I'm 48% done -- 43.5% was today's goal. Gauge is remaining constant and on track, so yippee!
Are we ready? Let's see...
So, doing a different yarn means working extra hard at gauge. The gauge called for in the pattern is 4 stitches/inch (with the original yarn doubled on size 8 needles). I've swatched my cascade, not doubled, and I get 4 1/2 stitches/inch. I may adjust the pattern for this, or I may go down a needle size and try again. In the meantime, here's a boring swatch photo for you.
The key here is Citius, Alitius, Fortius -- which (I am told) is Latin for Faster, Higher, Stronger. That's a good ideal, so I'll give it a go.
I had to come back and stitch closed a few holes at the bases of the fingers. Maybe with the next pair I will be able to avoid these holes. I also noticed something that looks like a seam in the garter stitch cuff where I changed from purl to knit and back again. Springy seems to be having the same problem.
